Wrestling News Wire Hall Of Fame Class Of 2013: Fabulous Moohlah

As a little girl growing up in South Carolina, Mary Lillian Ellison had no idea that she would grow up to become one of the greatest pro wrestlers, male or female, in history. While many of you remember The Fabulous Moohlah from her comedic segments with Mae Young on RAW, in her prime Moohlah was one of the toughest people to ever step inside the ring. Many of the men stars of the day refused to step inside the ring with her, not because they didn't want to hit a lady, but because many of them knew that they could never beat her and didn't want to face possible career ending embarrassment. Moohlah became the won the NWA World Womens Championship in September 1956 during a battleroyal.

Despite WWE's claim that Moolah held the title for over 28 years, she actually lost the title 4 times. But 2 of those reigns did last nearly a decade both surpassing Bruno Sammartino's WWWF World Championship reign, thus making her the longest reigning champion in the history all of pro wrestling. Moohlah sold the rights to the NWA World Womens Championship to WWE in 1983. Without her proving that women could be capable of being big draws, its likely that the whole divsion could have went the way of midget wrestling. With that in mind, I am pleased to indict The Fabulous Moohlah into the Wrestling News Wire Hall Of Fame Class Of 2013
